Cuban pictorial art is the most prominent expression of the plastic acts in Cuba. At the present project is gathered a small part- vague strokes of artistic expressions of Cuban artists in the last three years. Their works comes from a place where freedom of expression and speech does not exist. At the same time the freedom of imagination in them transforms in exquisite forms that reveal already forgotten feelings and emotions. Contemplation of the paintings evokes admiration and is genuine emotional delight.

The avangardistic reaction in the 20s of XX century creates a new  moment in Cuban painting art. The first and most important exhibition of the modern movement is represented in “Progress” magazine in 1927. some of the initiators of the movement are Eduardo Abela, Vikto Manuel, Antonio Gatorno and Carlos Enriquez.

In the following years the modern movement consolidates and in 1937 the first Hall of Modern Art was opened. There young artists reveal new moments in Cuban art which in 40s will be embodied into so—called School in Havana. Personalities such as Rene Portokarero, Amelia Pelaes and Mariano Rodriguez are part of this movement. In 1942 after a long stay in Europe and experience in the workshop of Pablo Picasso, Wilfredo Lam returns to Cuba. In the following 1943 he creates the memorable work “The Jungle” which was repurchased by MOMA in New York. With the victory of revolution, the plastic movement becomes stronger and in 1962 the National School of Plastic Arts was created.

In the recent decades there shine the names of artists such as Roberto Fabelo, Zayla del Rio, Thomas Sanchez, Manuel Mendive and Nelson Dominguez whose works are among the richness of Cuban culture. In the past 30 years the Cuban art manages to combine the global influences with their own sense creativity. At the same time it preserves and enriches the typical features of the Cuban identity.
